BADGE REQUIRMENTS AND KNOT TIEING HELP

We will have some knot help annimated clip art to help you in learning to tie your scout knots. We will also list some of the requirements for each rank. Make sure you keep track in your scout book everything you do and have your Scoutmaster sign off as soon as your finished.


SQUARE KNOT

The SQUARE KNOT is the joining knot every Scout has to know before they join there Troop. This is the basic knot and can be mastered with little effort.

BOWLINE KNOT or RESCUSE KNOT

The Bowline is a little more difficult but is very important in a scouts life. It is used to preform water rescuses. Also the knot will stay where you make it and not slip up and tighten up or loosen.

TWO HALF HITCHES

Two Half Hitches are used to tie your tent at the ridge line. this know will not slip and hold tight. You can also tie things to trees and poles without damaging them.

CLOVE HITCH

The Clove Hitch will remind you of a figure 8. It hold tight but loosens easily. You might use it to tie up your boat, horse, sled, and much more.

SHEET BEND

Have you ever needed just a little more rope to tie something? Well the Sheet Bend is the knot for you. It is used whan you have two different sizes of rope and need to connect them together.

TIMBER HITCH

The Timber Hitch is used for dragging timber or toeing things. It hold fast but comes off easy. This is one of the first lashings you will learn in scouts.

SCOUT BADGE

To earn your Scout Badge you will need to be 11 or have earned the Arrow of Light award as a Cub Scout. Next fill out your application and find a Troop near your home that you might want to join. Have a Scoutmaster conference with your parents, and repeat the pledge of allegiance, demonstrate the scout sign, salute, handshake, how to tie the squire knot, and describe the scout badge. The next thing is to understand and agree to live buy the scout oath or promise, law, motto, outdoor code, and the slogan. Lastly do the pamplet exercises the our in the front of your new scout handbook about child protaction. You can find all the requirments in chapter 1 of your scout handbook.

TENDERFOOT BADGE

This badge requires you to present yourself to your leader ready to go on a campout overnighter. You have to spend at least 1 night in a tent and help out prepareing the meals. You have to demonstrate whipping a rope, tieing two knots flag procedures, Heimlich maneuver, and some basic first aid. You need to be able to explain the rules of safe hiking and why we use the buddy system. Physical fitness is important so you have 30 days to do some basic exercise skills and show improvement in each area. The last things you will do are at every badge level. You should demonstrate scout spirit by living the scout oath and law everyday, have a Scoutmaster conference, and complete your board of review.
